Nanda Yoga offers yoga classes for children 6 weeks to 18 years, as well as, expecting mothers and families. Check out our class descriptions below.
This class is designed to help expectant moms deepen the experience and enjoyment of pregnancy while growing a strong connection with their baby. Find comfortable ways to replenish your energy, improve sleep and reduce stress. Increase endurance and strength in the muscles needed for delivery and help relieve pain in the low back, hips, chest, shoulders, and neck. Enjoy some special bonding time for you and your baby!
This class is for new mothers to recover and restore after birth. The poses will help you to reconnect to the core and address changes in the pelvic floor, slowly rebuilding strength and flexibility as well as soothing muscles from caring for your baby. You will learn breathing exercises, work on releasing and opening the body and learn self-massage techniques- the focus is only on YOU. Enjoy some much-needed self-care time!
Baby & Me
(Infants to pre-walking)
This class is for both baby and grown-ups—filled with stretching, breathing, singing and moving playfully with your baby yogi. Yoga stimulates all bodily systems and assists in transitions to different developmental stages. We will end class with a joint relaxation which enhances non-verbal communication between you and your baby.
TODDLER & ME YOGA
This class is a chance for grownups to explore the world of a toddler! We will move, sing, play, breathe and relax. We meet toddlers where they are! This class aids in socialization, listening skills and deepens the parent-child bond through play.
TODDLER YOGA & SENSORY PLAY
(12m - 3yo)
This is a great opportunity for grown-ups to experience the world of a toddler. We will sing, dance, breathe and play yoga while strengthening the bond with your little yogi. We will flow through a yoga story and then end class with a self-directed sensory exploration.
3 - 4 year olds
Fun, inspirational classes encourage a child's natural thirst for knowledge. In this imaginative series, we combine simple yoga poses with engaging songs, puppets and stories that exercise social, sensory and motor skills while increasing flexibility.
4 - 6 year olds
In this energy releasing class the students will strengthen their bodies as they learn how to focus through breathing and relaxation techniques. While the child plays yoga we will encourage self-expression as well as social skills.
7 - 9 year olds
Improve strength, flexibility, and coordination. Children will learn how to focus and center themselves with various breathing and visualization techniques. They will also learn self-respect and respect for others with the practice of fun and challenging poses, partner and group poses, lots of yoga games, breathing and basic anatomy.
10 - 12 year olds
Help build strength and flexibility with more physically challenging postures and flowing sequences. Promote self-confidence, awareness, and control. Visualization and breathing exercises are used for overall balance and concentration, which can be applied to everyday situations. Partner and group poses are emphasized. Age-appropriate yoga games are included in every class.
This is a time of monumental shift for your child- emotionally, physically, cognitively and socially. At this age, boys desperately need a non-competitive outlet to let go of their stress and anxiety and feel positive about themselves. We'll practice basic and challenging yoga poses, partner poses and group poses.
During this class, we will focus on increasing core strength, endurance, flexibility and range of motion. Yoga builds balance, agility and gives the student an opportunity to connect to themselves and the community around them.
Using yoga postures to build inner and outer strength and flexibility are the main focus of this class. Also included are partner and group poses and age-appropriate yoga games. Experience emotional balance through the physical and mental benefits of yoga by practicing breathing exercises, flowing sequences, balancing poses and deep relaxation while building a healthy relationship with your body. Positive self-awareness and esteem are encouraged.
For the advanced yogini who has an established practice and is ready to experience an elevated yoga class with more challenging poses.
Girl Power Yoga
In this class we focus on how to lift each other up, be an important member in the community and love ourselves for who we really are. At this age, girls desperately need a non-competitive outlet to let go of their stress and anxiety and feel great about themselves. We'll practice basic and challenging yoga poses, partner poses and group poses. We'll journal, meditate, play group games and activities for supporting each other, learn and share about ourselves and create ideas of how we can make the world a better place for all.
We'll focus on positive self-image, self-love, and kindness towards ourselves and others. And of course, being strong inside and out.
Yoga for families is a fun-filled way for children and parents (grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.) to spend quality time together while enjoying a fun and healthy activity. Practicing yoga together helps strengthen the bonds between grown-up and child. This class is filled with partner poses, group poses, silly flowing sequences and yoga games!
During Storytime Yoga your child is given the opportunity to explore and challenge their bodies, expand and connect physical movements to themes and stories, and increase their vocabulary which allows them to better express themselves both physically and emotionally. Storytime yoga is a great way to connect with your child and enjoy some mindful moments together!
